I have a lot of skin damage and have had every type of skin cancer including melanoma all with conventional treatment (surgery). I have done a lot of on line research looking mainly for preventative measures so I wanted to give something back to people looking for solutions. I'm mainly listing things for people who want to do more research on their own.
I visit a conventional dermatologist every three months but I'm getting tired of slash and burn or efudex and looking more to prevent problems before they get too bad both in terms of diet and topical solutions.
I have come to believe that overall health and immune system is a very important aspect to skin cancer. Mainly because of documented research that people with compromised immune systems are at a much higher overall risk for skin cancer....so it only makes sense that a strong immune system is the body's first defense against skin cancer.
I take the following suppliments for anyone who wants to do more research. coq10 vit d vit c Mushrooms...chaga, mesima, reishi powder every day total 8g dried powder vit e zinc cal/mag apple cider vinegar 4tsp/day green tea two cups a day turmeric powder mixed in vegetable juice cod liver oil
One thing I've had success with that hasn't been mentioned in this forum is turmeric applied topically. It will turn you bright yellow for sure, but it seems to work, and it works by gradually making it go away, not by a caustic reaction sort of mechanism. turmeric has an anti inflammatory effect among other beneficial effects. For myself, I feel immediate relief if I put it on a spot that is itchy, burning or raw.
I haven't tried any of the methods listed on this forum but I may in the future because the "science" of dermatology is really very primitive. Even among dermatologists they can't agree on the best treatments and I basically have very low confidence in them and I have seen plenty. They are basically overpaid deli workers....they have no real answers or good treatments unless you consider huge bills and giant scars a good treatment. that's my opinion. My point is that there is a lot of room for substantial improvement in this field. Efudex, the primary treatment besides surgery was invented in 1957. That tells you how little progress they have made in the past 50 years. It's really pretty sad. They are definitely practicing medical arts.
If you're interested, search the web for turmeric. There is a lot being written about it lately. I now take 3g of organic tumeric powder mixed with organic vegetable juice and a little ground black pepper a day in addition to using it topically wherever the yellow skin isn't going to be a problem.
I am also having results with Chaga and mesima mushroom powder applied topically and there is a new product called Solaraze that I haven't tried yet but it's being used by dermatologists for bcc and I may give that a try. You need a prescription to get that in the US.
Anyway, if I find anything else that works for me, I'll post in the future. The key is to stay on top of it and don't let anything go for a long time before you get it cured.
also, tca peels and retin-a have improved the overall look and feel of my skin.

SoFl.....Thanks for posting...You sound like you have been through a lot..Some very interesting info here....
I take turmeric also..I had high hopes for turmeric as external skin treatment but I found that it stained my skin horribly the fist time I used it so I never tried again...

yeah I have bad skin. It runs in my family. My dad has had everything too and he's 80 so it's just something you have to keep up on.
Not many US doctors are using solarize yet. I think because of malpractice worries and whatever no one wants to be the first one on the block to use something new. I like the way it works though. It's a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug that you apply topically. So I like the way it works. I actually think turmeric works in the same sort of way. I have a lot of lip ak and when I put the New Chapter Tumeric capsule liquid on my lip it feels and looks really good. It stains though wherever you use it and rubs off on stuff...nothing you can do about that.
I'm really looking for alternatives to the efudex because I have read that if you undertreat with it it can drive cancers deeper so they appear to be cured but come back later as serious invasive scc. then some say that it gets in your blood and treating yourself systemically with it I guess is sort of "undefined"...so that's also a worry about efudex....plus depending on where you use it it either stings or burns or itches and it's generally just not a fun treatment at all. It's very primitive. It's like putting battery acid on your body every day for 4 weeks. It's a rough treatment when you follow the full course. I have also experimented with diluting the 5% liquid form by tenfold to .5% and it seems to be as effective but less irritating to normal skin. So in the future I'm hoping by using alternative treatments I can avoid the battery acid.
Anyway with so many people having skin cancers these days and the treatment methods so primitive, I figure that people sharing personal experience might advance the science a little or collectively come up with some new or unknown treatments which are badly needed. I think most derms seem to be just happy with the primitive status quo...slash and burn and have wednesdays off for golf....no innovation at all. |
