I've been treating a BCC in the suggested manner which removed the BCC cleanly.
However, we're now left with an unsightly ring of thickened and slightly reddened skin that was growing around the BCC, and basically holding it onto the cheek. (It looks like a doughnut)
What suggestions do people have to soften this skin so it will disappear and lie flat again?
I've been told that a paste of castor oil and baking soda will be the best step.
There's still a hole where the BCC has come from but this appears to be healing nicely. I don't want to irritate this new/developing skin with any treatment.
Help please!!

I have the same thing on my cheek from where the bcc has disfigured the skin, and formed an irregular ring of ridged, scar-like tissue. The center of the ring is also red, but smooth until it reaches the outer edge, it looks sort of like a burn scar.
I would also be interested in any input from someone who has dealt with this type of scarring.

I'm wondering if, because facial skin is more sensitive than in other areas of the body, it reacts differently.
The skin reaction definitely sounds very similar to yours, Grace.

Hi Dan,
We used a topical solution of 7% Iodine on the area for a couple of weeks and then...when nothing more 'dramatic' seemed to be working, switched to a paste of 1tsp baking soda, 1tsp 15+ Manuka honey and mixed them to a paste with the same 7% iodine.
It seemed to cut through the scab better and then, with an unintentional 'scratch' one morning, the whole plug came out of the 'socket' leaving a beautifully clean hole. Reminded me of an iceberg with so much under the surface!!
Since then we've been using the 15+manuka honey in the hole to make sure the new flesh heals well. The use of the Bioptron lamp has been another help in the healing process.
Having checked things with a friend today we're reverting to the paste (above) again for a wee while to make sure all is absolutely clean and then are looking to use the Castor oil/baking soda paste - and even looking at the idea of straight lemon juice as the friend has been having wonderful results with this, with no sign of scarring. The trouble with this is the pain on the area when using the juice....
The friend I mentioned had a similar 'doughnut ring' (not quite as large) on a site on his neck and it has gradually been reducing in size. It's almost flat now and so I feel a lot better after seeing his results! :-)
I'll keep you up to date with what's happening.

Hi Flore,
I've been researching Manuka Honey and one of the uses is for removing dead skin to minimize scarring. There's also an impressive list of other uses and benefits, both internally and externally. It might be worth a try for the thick skin around my bcc. Has it seemed to help yours at all?
Also, I was wondering where you purchased yours? There's a bunch of places online, and all of them say they have the "real thing". But it sounds like there's some table honey being passed off as medical grade Active Manuka Honey, and there's warnings about making sure you're getting the real thing. Did you order online, or get it from a store?

| Flore, thanks for the informative reply on your unique approach, it is very much appreciated. Do you know if the lemon juice used was freshly squeezed or reconstituted? Maybe it doesn't matter if it is too painful. The Bioptron lamp is new to me, but seems expensive at around $600? |
