Why has no one mentioned radiation therapy as treatment for a skin cancer?

Maybe someone else has a better answer, but I think of radiation somewhat negatively. Radiation probably works as it kills and damages cancer cells, but there is the danger it will also cause genetic damage to normal cells that may later turn cancerous. I am thinking of X-Ray radiation in this case, but I think there are now other types of skin cancer treatments using visible light radiation that specifically target cancer cells after pretreating them with certain chemicals. That sort of radiation therapy sounds more appealing to me.
