Hi to all,
I have never been on a blog before, but I have not been this scared of a treatment before, either. I am so glad to have found all of you. I, too, felt there was little medical discussion, just the directic to use Carac, with all the horrendous side effects. Too much, too fast. Just left me reeling. Fortunately, I got a reprieve and can delay treatmnet for several weeks due to some already scheduled events. I hope this will help to adjust mentally. A few days was not enough time to digest the idea of destroying my lower lip!
I would be glad to see experiences from anyone who has gone through, or is going through, this treatment on lip.
Bless you all for being there!
Eve

Suggestion:
There are a number of people on this board working on problems with their LIPS. What Dan is showing here about moisturizers probably applies also to various commercial LIP BALMS. Try reading the ingredients for any you are using and compare to Dan's list above. Maybe we are better off suffering from dry lips than putting on lip-balm.
See the thread for: Moisturizer use linked to increased skin cancer

I have had lip problems from too much sun for years with previous biopsy confirmed SCC and AK. Past treatments have included excision, and several courses (six over the years to be exact) of Efudex (5%) which is very hard, almost impossible to tolerate on the lip. I also tried various topical "home remedies" over the years including eggplant and most of the things mentioned here.

Last year my dermatologist had me try out a fairly new product called Solaraze which is a prescription anti inflammatory. You use it for 90 days. It requires a prescription but it isn't that expensive and one tube will last a long time for lip treatment. I used a very, very small amount once a day every night before bed and the treatment was extremely tolerable, nothing like Efudex. I would dry my lower lip off well after brushing my teeth, then apply a very small dab across the lower lip and then let it dry and I wouldn't eat or drink anything until the next am when I woke up to make sure it stayed on my lip.

My lip was almost completely normal one month after the 90 day solaraze treatment but I was still having occasional flaking. Since then I have been applying Avalon Organics Vitamin C lip balm every night before bed and for the past six months or so my lip looks and feels 100% normal, which is the first time I can say that in 15 years. I have also beefed up my diet with a lot of herbs known to fight skin cancer and I've been drinking a lot of green tea spiked with green tea capsules from NSI. I can't say for sure which or all of the things together worked, but it worked.

I would like to remind everyone to ask your primary care doctor to add a vitamin D test when you next have routine bloodwork done. If you are like me, you have been avoiding the sun for quite some time. My results came back deficient at 18.8 ng/mL. Normal range is from 32-100 (although now many experts believe it should be much higher). I was prescribed one 50,000 IU vitamin D pill per week for 12 weeks. Now my level is 45, and I will just take Costco over-the-counter Vit.D. Low vitamin d can cause all sorts
of trouble ...cancer and autoimmune problems, etc. thx.

Here are all the things I use in my diet. Basically I am taking every supplement I read about that is supposed to help the skin or cancer.
I had a melanoma removed 2 years ago so part of my concern is that. Part of my concern is I also had Candida which I now believe is somehow related to my overall skin condition so some of these suppliments are related to that.

1.) A product called yeast cleanse which has garlic, caprylic acid and grapefruit seed oil and Pau D Arco

2.) drinking a lot of fresh green tea spiked with a dehydrated green tea capsule

3.) One multivitamin from costco

4.) 150mg CoQ10 from Costco

5.) 50mg zinc

6.) 12-18 apricot seeds chewed up and swallowed. I space them out and I never have taken more than six at one time and I have never noticed any of the supposed ill effects.

7.) I eat a lot of onions and garlic

8.) I upped my protein intake and I noticed an improvement in overall skin quality and energy

9.) I exercise 5 days a week

10.) I take a product called DIM with broccosinolate(sp?) from NSI

11.) dehydrated broccoli from NSI

12.) dried turmeric 1 capsule per day

13.) I eat a lot of fresh organic blueberries, occasionally blackberries

14.) we try to eat as much organic food as possible now

15.) I limit my sweets and the funny thing is after doing this for a while now when I have a bite of cake or something like that it tastes bad...way too sweet.

16.) I drink red wine every day and I also take an occasional reservatrol, grape seed, red wine capsule

17.) I drink some organic fruit/vegatable drinks including coconut/pineapple, and acai

18.) I rotate through various mushroom powders including chaga and reishi, from mushroom harvest I buy 1lb bags and it's CHEAP.

19.) Occasional Oil of Oregano capsule (1 every few days) this is very effective for me against cold and flu. I have warded off several colds with it. In fact, I haven't had a cold or flu since I started using it that way.

20.) I take a capful of cod liver oil every day

Since I embarked on this supplement regimen many people have remarked that I look much younger and my skin overall looks better.I also feel in great health. Also my blood pressure is lower than it's ever been. It's expensive, I have no real idea what is working and what isn't but overall it's working.
