All you Aldera users...Please give your opinion.

I have had over 30 surgeries for BCC including 2 Mohs on my face. I have been scared to death to use Aldera for Akc/bcc - I have heard horror stories. My skin looks like a road map due to surgeries so I finally caved in. They treated a spot above my eye and my ear. It was such a horrifying experience. At first I thought -this is not so bad. I did not have the reactions that I heard of. The joke started after the third week. OMG - horrific did not begin to even explain. But I did not go to the Dr. as I thought it was "normal". Long story short - a staff infection set in and to this day -several months later - it is still pink and put it this way - a scar would look much better! Today (9/21/07) my Dr. told me that he wanted me to use Aldera on my entire face -yea right!!! He said that my reaction was not "normal" and that laser will fix anything that does not heal on its own..of course at my expense - insurance does not cover laser. We decided to compromise and start on my nose and upper lip. Needless to say - I am very scared. My eye I was able to cover up with a bandage - and did for OVER A MONTH. My nose and lip would be impossible. I guess I am looking for reassurance for anyone that had had a pleasant experience and if so - how often did you apply it - what time of day etc. Even post bad experiences too. I really appreciate any opinions I can get. Good, bad and ugly. Thank you so much! |

You have really been through a tough time.
Laser is a new approach and no defined procedures yet. Another poster had a large BCC blasted first with laser then aldera. If I understood you right that is just the opposite of what your doctor is offering.

Kathi had also had Levulan / Laser treatment done on her whole face previous to this post with good results.
It seems like laser should be covered and just because an insurance company initially says something isn't covered doesn't mean it isn't.
You've got to fight for what is right.
Take some time and go through the forums here. I have used bloodroot with ouch effective results but the bcc returned. Curaderm with semi unsatisfactory results, sunspot es with a good result on one, unsatisfactory on 2 others. I am now trying the eggplant vinegar mixture and the jury is out. Several people have tried the combo "Kitchen sink" approach with good results. I have had aldera packs sitting in my Med cabinet for @ 2 years and after the bloodroot just couldn't bring myself to use them.
