The doctors started on me in the 1970s, scraping, burning, etc. and when you're an Irish kid spending days on a tractor, riding horses, motorcycles, in jungle sun, it soon becomes routine. Mohs surgery became popular (and expensive) in the 1980s, and I made a lot of Mercedes payments for dermatologists. My experience was less than pleasant and included going in for an initial excision, and returning to have the site scraped off and the deeper incisions made until they were satisfied all malignant cells had been removed. if this was the future of dermatology, I was determined to find a better solution. This was way before Google, but some friends told me about a black salve that seemed to remove their skin cancers. I called the small company in Louisiana where the people were very nice and the salve quite cheap.
I put a tiny dab on a small basal cell and almost instantly felt a mild stinging in the area. After a while I had forgotten I put it on until passing a mirror and saw the dark speck on my face. After a day or two it formed into a scab which fell off in about 10 days leaving a tiny crater. This later filled in with normal looking skin. That was almost 20 years ago and just before my last visit to the dermatologist where I told him about this stuff thinking he would be really excited. Of course he didn't have anything positive to say about something inexpensive and far more pleasant than the painful visits to his office. Obviously that was my last trip to see him and my little jar of salve that cost maybe $30 lasted me almost 15 years.
During that time the FDA and apparently launched a campaign against the makers of Cansema, raided them with guns drawn and put the owner in prison. When I went to get a new supply, there was none. Now the salve is being made in Ecuador and can't be imported to the US, but meanwhile my basal cells have been growing nicely, especially around my nose (see the photo). I'm older but otherwise very healthy and haven't been sick or needed a doctor, so now only have the VA for emergencies. Like most inner cities, you don't want to go there.
I'm glad to have discovered this site and hope to find a better solution than the Cansema that helped me for so long. I used it on dozens of sites with no problems or even real pain . Some looked small but went deep and would be a little achy, but nowhere even close to the Mohs poking, prying and pain. Those outside the U.S. might try the salve at least on a tiny spot. Some spots from my Mohs came back and sometimes would come back again even after the salve, especially corners of my forehead where even a baseball cap fails to shield, but it worked well for me for a long time and very cheap.
I'm now playing with baking soda as I read on this site, so instead of black spots on my face, there are now white ones. I'm skeptical but a willing test subject. I will look for some petty surge and try it on the other side of my face. The experiment continues and we are the guinea pigs that may help find something that will help millions of the kids growing up with a depleted ozone layer.

Hi BasalBoy, we are glad to have you here! Your comment about the dermatologist's fancy car cracked me up because it is so true. There was no mystery about which car belonged to the good doctor in my experience also. I'm sure you have noticed there are many remedies to try. It helps not to have the desperation factor when you know you can always go back to a remedy that worked for you in the past. Keep us posted either way with any results. |

I've used cansema and it works although very painful and unsightly. But Eufidix is unsightly as well. I bought my cansema on line as an animal medication. |

Suesie, It is sad that remedies like Cansema are attacked by the US government that should be helping us get well. Of course any remedy that actually works is a threat to the billions of dollars dermatologists make, and using these caustic materials carelessly makes them seem more harmful. I used it successfully for 15 years and am seeking something to replace it besides surgery. |
