Having a hard time with this go-around of the petty spurge. Hope some people who have used it themselves will respond.
I've had a mild headache since the end of the first day I began using the spurge again. Last night after second consecutive day of applying it to large areas around both nostrils and above mouth on one side, as well as a small application on my leg, I woke up with a sudden urge to vomit and started to lose vision in both eyes. Those were some of the migraine symptoms I got as a teenager. Chemical exposures also cause them in me. Since I've had no chemical exposures in the last few days and haven't had migraines for decades, I have to assume it was the spurge.
Maybe putting the sap on four areas is too much? Please share your experience/thoughts about this.
Thanks!

I have not yet tried the Petty Spurge, although I now seem to be getting some pretty successful plants. My reading of the various forum threads on this subjects indicates that you are tackling too many areas, with too much exposure all at once. As to the strong negative reactions, I don't know. You may also have weakened yourself and gotten one of the current strong bugs going around now as winter drags to an end. I hope that you are better now and have success with the bad spots. |

Hi Thanks,
Yes, that's possible, but I always feel run down when I use the sap. I'd love to tell you more about what's going on with me re the sap but prefer to email offlist.
What's your situation? Hope you're OK. Do you plan on using the plants? If you want to email offlist you can email me. I think my e-address is in the system.
Thanks for replying,
Brigid

Hi Brigid
I don't recall any experiences like you had but I only used the spurge on a very small bcc. It worked fast and thoroughly. The only recommendation I might make would be to do the spurge in a couple phases rather than all or nothing. It normally seems to need application 2-3 times a day for a few days depending on the size and severity of the lesion. Perhaps you can do a couple spots at a time rather than all of them? The sap is quite powerful, I imagine it could very well be responsible for your symptoms assuming no other dietary or chemical exposure changes. Sounds like you also have applied fairly large quantities compared to most.
I am about to plant some more of my seeds that I harvested from my first plants last summer. I intend to distribute the sap this time on my forehead over a large area where the scar from my Moh's surgery there last year. I want to make sure the sap gets the chance to catch what the surgeon missed, if anything.

One of the active components of petty spurge, in addition to the chemotherapeutic effect of inducing cell death of cancerous cells, is the strong immune response it induces. The affected area is flooded with neutrophils (white blood cells) attacking any abnormal cells and there is an intense concentration of immune activity. If you're applying petty spurge over a wide area, the magnified effect of this immune response might be what's responsible for the unwell feeling you have. I know, for example, that when you get that awful rundown sick feeling during a case of the flu, it's not actually the flu virus that's causing that feeling, it's your body's immune response to the virus at work. If you are inciting an extreme response, perhaps by over-application of PS, that might be what's going on to cause these systemic symptoms. I'm not an M.D. Just my two cents. |
