Has anyone looked into this in the US? Galderma got US FDA approval for metvix back in January (I think) to treat BCC's. In Europe, doctors have had significant success treating both superficial and nodular BCC's with metvix/alkalite therapy. From what I can discern from the medical studies and clinical history documentation, it is an effective targeted PDT system specifically designed to treat BCC's, AK's, etc. I am having a heck of time finding a US service provider via web searches so far, no less one in my area. This evening I sent an email to Galderma (the US distributor for metvix) asking for help to find a service provider. It looks like a very promising option for us if I can find someone that offers it.
It uses a different photosensitizer (metvix) and light source (red instead of blue)than the typical PDT therapy (levulan and Blue-U light). The benefits are purported to be considerably deeper penetration of the agent and light source. If anyone is interesting in reading about it here is a link:

On a somewhat interesting sidenote, I am also looking into investing in a comprehensive standard PDT therapy for all my exposed skin from my upper-back/chest on up to my hairline. I am only 31 and have had two biopsy confirmed BCC's, the first on my chest and the second on the top of my shoulder. While rather pricey, I hope it saves me from multiple trips to the Moh's knife wielder and even from my own painful/drawn out topical concoction adventures:) The first doctor I saw who is very experienced with PDT, is quoting $15k for everything. It would entail 6 treatments for all the skin areas along with the skin prep, post therapy lotions, etc. She is admittedley one of the more expensive providers in my metropolitan area. I don't mind a premium if I get better service and a better result. However, I am checking a few other places before writing the check.
