Very Interesting! I might have missed it, but I don't believe anyone has tried Beta Glucan topically or recommended it internally here.. Chime in Dan if you know different.

I had not heard of this before but after looking this up, it may be worth investigating. I am especially interested because this is something you take to stimulate the immune system from within.

Here's a precursor to the history of Beta Glucan

http://www.betaglucan.org/history.htm

Be forewarned I suspect this not for profit .org site is hosted by the company that makes "immunition" a "Super" Beta Glucan derivative
It doesn't negate that there is a lot of good information and links here including this page
http://www.betaglucan.org/links.htm
That will require quite a bit of time going through to read everything..

This definitely has my interest. I'll post my thoughts after I educate myself a bit on this supplement.

Here is a quick little story in this case they are saying that the source is various mushrooms whereas the first site says the Beta Glucan is coming from Bakers yeast.. all fungus among us :)

I highlighted a particular area here as it kind of explains what happens when you place bloodroot paste on a skin cancer.. or how it loosely explained to me from the Horse Veterinarian that gave me a brief lay mens terms schooling on bloodroot.

In the 1970's, experiments with Beta-1, 3-D glucans in humans began.

Beta-1,3-D glucan's role in immune system activation was greatly advanced when in 1975 Peter W. Mansell, M.D., and colleagues reported its effects on nodules of malignant skin cancer in patients that were injected with beta-1,3-glucan. This was reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Joyce Czop Ph.D., a researcher at Harvard University in the discovered specific receptor sites for beta glucan that matched a site on the surface of the macrophage.

This research demonstrated that the macrophage, known as the "solider" of the immune system (a white blood cell), consumes non-self foreign microbes. This process is know as phagocytosis.

Work so far with non-bacterial polysaccharides has shown that glucans function by stimulating the immune system and are not themselves toxic to cells. In the 1970's and 1980's, the anti-tumor polysaccharides (glucans), Lentinan, schizophyllan and PSK/Krestin, were isolated from three different fungal sources, Shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes), the split gill fungus (Schizophyllum commune), and a similar fungus Coriolus versicolor. These are all marketed for medicinal use in Japan (Mizuno, 1995). Subsequently, the anti-tumor effects of glucans have been shown to be a result of the action of the glucan in stimulation of immune cells not the result of direct toxicity to tumor cells. One advantage of this approach over many traditional treatments is that immune cells already possess the capacity to recognize and destroy "sick" cells, and foreign invaders. Therefor, damage to healthy tissue is minimized by amplification of natural defenses that recognize targets as opposed to the introduction of toxic compounds into the body which kill both healthy and "sick" cells.

The four sources of Beta Glucan
With bakers yeast supposedly the best source..
That doesn't mean go eat a ton of bakers yeast..

You can overdose on Bakers yeast but not the extracted Beta Glucan

Looked interesting to me also - woman that owns health-food store in my area said she had a mole type thing on her face that disappeared after she took a low-dose product -- I discovered there is a "low dose" product and a "high dose" product each claiming to be "It". - I took the low-dose for 2 weeks then started on the high dose and took for 6 days and quit as i was experiencing some slight dizzy-type of feeling (like from plugged ears) and also had a flushing episode and mild stomach upset. Thought I take a few days off and do some more research and inquiry.
I purchased a baby cream and lotion from Jason that has beta glucan in it as i would think perhaps applying it topically might be helpful.
Is anyone familiar with the "National Standard Monograph"? I went on their site to get info on Beta Glucan and it is subscription. Found their info on MD Anderson Cancer Ctr website. I am a little concerned about what they reported on Beta Glucan on link below

but then i scare easy :)
Is this one of those publicatons that tries to scare people away from natural alternatives??
Not know!
Thanks for your input!!! I've had several of these BCC's carved off my face and it is boring!!!!!!!
