Well it's been a long strange painful trip to where I am today.
It's been a whirlwind of emotions as I finally reluctantly made the decision that I must get medical help in my crazy skin cancer case.

To be clear I have had some great success in ridding myself of sun damaged skin, some AK's and yes even some very decent sized Basal cell lesions...If I knew when I started what I know now it is very likely I would not be where I am ...but I didn't and I am.

I will share pictures soon, I feel obliged to though I have to say I am not to proud of what I have allowed myself to endure...They are bigger and more gross than anyone other than Hoxsey has posted here...Though hers were horrific because they were her nose mine are actually much bigger and nastier just in places where the public couldn't see them as I always wore a hat and "Quasimodo" (my little friend on my shoulder) was covered by my shirt.

So I have six lesions they are addressing though I have many small basals near them..One is Squamous ( on my cheek dang it!) and it has gone crazy these last 5 months and there was no way of hiding it...two Basals that are huge and 3 that are much smaller...

I am a poster child for the skin cancer "team" at COH not the worst they have ever seen but definitely in their top 10 club...lovely

I am being seen by a dermatologist, a plastic surgeon, a oncologist and a radiation oncologist all specializing in skin cancer tumors...the tumor board...beyond these 4 there is a small army of people who help them...

All six lesion have been biopsied ...one twice (Oh joy!)
I have been given a PET scan and a MRI which were required because they were concerned because of the 10+ year age of some these that they may have gone to bone or lymph nodes...scary stuff..

The first doctor I saw was the plastic surgeon...I am not sure if this was on purpose but he left me aghast at the potential surgeries that could be awaiting me ...He was very surprised at the quantity of lesions I had and asked if I had ever been exposed to major radiation like Chernobyl...hmmm? Next was the Dermatologist who also was surprised at the volume of lesions but is certain it is from sun damage. She also told me to not take what the plastic surgeon said as set in stone as there were many ways to go about treating to get the best cosmetic results...e.g. Drugs and radiation therapy etc...

Next was the oncologist...Erivedge for the Basals to shrink them down to a more operable size and Keytruda just a week earlier FDA approved for treating squamous (A God send?) maybe...maybe not...
Not great odds for full remission only 20%

Next the radiation oncologist who was definitely the most optimistic...understand these visits happened over a period of days so when I saw the Radiation oncologist he had just come from a meeting that morning with the tumor board where each specialist studied my PET scans ( MRI had not been done yet) and from their diverse perspectives debated over who and how the team should go about treating me with the best overall outcome of cure and least amount of cosmetic damage..

By the time he had got to me Keytruda was out we were still going to go with the erivedge , some radiation and some surgery...

So the latest is the MRI came back that none of the basal cell cancers had gone to bone...whew...and the squamous on my cheek may have gone to my lymph node below my jaw...ugh...

Just had a needle biopsy done yesterday..results will be in a few days..."IF" it has gone to lymph node it changes the game I suppose Keytruda may be back in but not sure..

Time will tell...I haven't had this much testing done on me in my whole life...I'm not as fearful as I was when I started as the basals weren't near as deep as the plastic surgeon suspected...The squamous still has me scared but the general consensus is I can get over all of these with their treatments...which in the end are my decision as to how they go about...

As I mentioned earlier if I knew then what I know now, based upon my own experimentation and a few informative conversations with Greg Caton of Cansema fame.

Acetic acid in a 30% solution is a powerful tumor eroding substance.

Zinc Chloride is a powerful chemical that kills / exposes skin cancers to the immune system..

Guys like Caton insist the bloodroot and others herbs are essential maybe he is right but I personally have had great success with just using zinc chloride diluted to 10-20 and 30%.

I don't have Dr. Mohs recipe memorized but have it somewhere. Pretty sure it is posted here in the truth about bloodroot thread... I know he wasn't using herbs with his zinc Chloride solution when he used it to do Chemographic surgeries. He'd first abrade the lesion and hit it with trichloracetic acid to eat away the melanin and then apply the ZC solution to fixate the tumors 24 hours prior to removal. It was a painful process and required two visits to the doctor...thus in the end he found micrographic surgery faster and less painful with similar positive results..( not better )

So.... Bloodroot paste what I learned from Greg Caton..

The reason I tried to find something other than Bloodroot paste was because it was so darn painful..Now 18 years after the fact I learned from Greg that I was treating too many areas , too big of areas at one time...his advice is never try and treat more than a 1 cm / 3/8" area...makes a lot of sense...if the lesion is 3 times that size just go at it in 3 separate treatments...wish I'd known that I might of never gone off on my quest to find something else...

If I had gone about it in such a way I doubt very much I would be in the mess I am in.

With regard to acetic acid I have come up with a pretty good way to eat away lesions when they are small but when they get as big as mine are forget about it.

I have been making my own healing salve for years..6 parts olive oil 1 part bees wax..melt it let it cool and harden then run it through a fine mesh strainer..very nice salve...

I use a make-up brush and apply the 25% acetic acid direct on lesions (you can add a very diluted portion of ZC to help it along..but not necessary.)

I also make an acetic acid salve I use in conjunction with the 25% acetic acid solution...2 tablespoons of the healing salve and 1/8 teaspoon of 99% acetic acid...careful the stuff is caustic...mix it together and apply with a make-up brush...cover with micropore tape.

I also do an interesting thing using the acetic acid salve. To hold it in place I use a paper towel folded and cut sections to cover the complete lesion. I wet the cut section under the sink faucet, lay it in the palm of my clean hands and then press as much water out of it as possible. I then lightly wet it with the 25% acetic acid ( I put it in an old Clear eyes bottle) and then I coat the piece with the acetic acid salve using the make up brush..I then apply the paper towel piece that now is soaked with 25% acetic acid and coated with the acetic salve on the lesion..It burns a bit but at least for me, it is tolerable. I apply 3m Micropore tape to hold in place and leave it until next days shower... I have removed and reduced some major lesions this way but the huge ones still crept forward...

So that is all for now...I know I screwed up not going at these much harder with the bloodroot some 10+ years ago but I didn't know what I know now and I didn't...I now pay the price for that ignorance..

I will post pictures before I start this journey down the traditional medical path of treating my skin cancers...

Prayers of hope and healing are appreciated as I venture on. Oh and God , if you're listening...Miracles are especially appreciated!

Well 14 days since the beast on my shoulder was removed..Yeeeouch!

As mentioned it was a biggun. It was located about 4 inches down from the top of my shoulder . It started @ 6 inches right of my spine and started growing towards it over the last 10 years..It got BIG @ a total of 5" wide , 3" tall and the nodular tumor was the size of a large apricot sort of flattened out. Fortunately it did not go to bone. Because it was in a odd place the plastic surgeon had an orthopedic surgeon remove it. I have @ a 8" slice and in the middle @ a 4" x 2" oval hole where they went deep...think a smiley face with lips...The lips area is where they used a skin graft from my thigh to cover the hole...so it is concave about 1/2" deep...I have a wound vac on it 24/7 to help the graft take...

I was in a lot more pain than expected and my neck kind of tightened up to where I could barely turn my head left right or down for the first week.... Much better movement this week a little better each day..I'd say I'm at about 70% ...this really made it hard to sleep...along with the squamous tumor on my cheek that is really painful...thus pretty tired during the days..

AS mentioned previously when they did the PET scan they saw reactive tissue in some of lymph nodes.. Turned out the jaw one was my Parotid gland..right next to the big squamous..we all assumed the biopsy would come back squamous but it came back BCC..very rare...great

They did a needle biopsy later of a lymph node in my arm pit it came back negative for cancer so it was just "reactive" to the cancer in my body..

Based upon the big mess that I am they have decided to attack the remaining squamous on my cheek and the BCC's on my forehead and ear with radiation...30 days in the hole...6 weeks 5 days a week.

I am at their mercy at this point. As mentioned the pictures are graphic..I'll post links soon...definitely embarrassed frustrated with myself that I let these get so big before surrendering...and what I have learned is that even here at City of Hope where they use the word cured pretty loosely they all admit yes they will get these gone but it is very likely I will have more in the coming years...I will never let anything get bigger than a 1/2" again but I definitely will not hesitate to use zinc chloride paste or bloodroot first...gotta say this is no fun but the job just got too big and I had to turn it over to the big boys.

I am still debating on if or if not I use the erivedge as it will shrink BCC's to make them more manageable but it does not eradicate them...probably going to take the pass..

Kind of strange...The node in my parotid gland they assumed was going to be squamous but came back BCC...The big Daddy on my shoulder where the surgeon removed "BY TOUCH" not Mohs ( they take more flesh by touch)was sent in for pathology after the surgery to check the margins...margins were clean YAY! The original biopsy of this tumor came back as a BCC but the actula tumor removed came back saying Big Daddy was both BCC and Squamous.....bizzare...The doctors are still scratching their heads on this one...The tumor board meets next week to discuss...but the bottom line was the margins were clean so no further torture on the section of my body...This wound vac is battery operated but what a PITA lugging it wherever I go...and it makes a little pumping noise to boot...weird stuff...all for now gotta go to Costco! woo hoo ...it's the little things in life...

Brother, I completely understand the trip to Costco! So glad to hear things are going well Tom - sounds like you are surrounded by skilled capable folks who are knocking these things out one by one! I also believe God is in this as you dodged a huge bullet with the great news of nothing in the bone. You are a warrior and I will continue to pray for your progress and healing.

If you can avoid the Erivedge - 3 doctors ago a Physicians assistant recm'd it for me and I said no after researching; my current doctor has said that it is for people who literally have a hundred or more bcc's all over. Don't think that is you. I am getting ready to go with an Efudex and calcipotriene mixture (very powerful topical chemo that will light you up) for 7 days which then the skin peels off; cancers (that you could not see before) are destroyed and gone - you are left with baby like soft skin. Will post on how that goes...my brother has already had success with this protocol.

As much as traditional medicine is flawed and often corrupt like other businesses there are some good eggs out there who truly care and are helping folks daily. Keep us updated looking forward to hearing you are restored to health and fighting the good fight - Bill

Well for those interested I felt it was time to check in....

Where to start...

To summarize I had 4 basal cell tumors and one squamous
The largest basal tumor was on my shoulder behind my neck and it was a big lump. I know it sounds hard to believe but it was truly about the size of a half of a small avacado...
The next largest was above my left eye on my forehead a good 3 inches in diameter ...this one was raised around the edge about 1/4 to 3/8" and @ 1/4" to 1/2' wide with a crater in the middle..I lost muscle control of my eyebrow on that one a year or so ago.
The third one was on the other side of my forehead and though spread out not near as big or as thick as the one on my left side..
The fourth Basal was on my right ear out on the inside of the outer ear I'd say it was probably about the size of half of a medium sized grape...

Lastly the Squamous on my cheek

It was almost the size of a 50 cent piece with the raised edges and crater...Really gross and much more painful than the Basal's..

So Surgery on the shoulder was early November and it was absolutely no fun that said they purportedly "got it all" It tooks months for me to be able to move head fully...and almost 5 months for the skin graft to heal..it still 8 months later is sore and when I look down I get tingles in my legs from the spine being out of whack from all the muscle that had to be removed...IT's an ugly scar but the beast is gone...

As mentioned earlier all the others they decided to treat with radiation...

The negative is I lost a lot of my hair on my already thinning head...half of my beard is gone probably forever...I still get dry mouth at night and when I say dry I mean Mohave desert dry...there is no ignoring it and going back to sleep I must sit up and drink some water...not every night but @ 3 out of 7..I lost my taste completely during the treatment which BTW they added 5 extra days ( at total of 35) ..IT took a few months after the treatment but I did regain all of my taste albeit some things just don't taste the same some taste better....

The positive is the grape on my ear is gone and healed...the tumor on my right forehead is healed...the big one on my left forehead is totally flat and after 6 months it has almost all healed there is a 2" x 1 1/4" area that still needs to be bandaged every day but it slowly is getting smaller...all the skin in the tumor area is very frail but it appears the basal is gone and hopefully the skin scar tissue will get healthier over time..

The squamous which was pretty big and ugly shrank down to almost nothing but there were two little nodules that wouldn't go away...The radiation oncologist was hopeful that it just needed more time but unfortunately a biopsy last week showed the squamous was still there...

The hocus pocus of PET scans and MRI's has me very skeptical yes if the tumor is large enough they can see them but if they are small...and IMO not THAT small...like a 1/4" x 1/4" and on the surface...they may not show...at least that's what they are telling and why none of the months after treatment PET scans or MRI's showed that the cheek tumor was still cancerous...

BTW they say all the cancer in the parotid gland is gone ( IS IT?)

Alas what to do...So after "the team" Dermatologist, radiation oncologist, plastic surgeon and Chemotherapy oncologist all got together to discuss my case they concluded surgery was not the best way to go at this juncture and that they should try a newly approved immunotherapy drug brand name of Libtayo...Gulp! So it has had some good results to date unfortunately many of those in the test groups were much deeper in trouble with squamous than I am so the results were far from 100% success...least that's what the Chemo doc is telling me...This is not Chemo BTW and though it is administered intravenously every 3 weeks, the side effects are much less and no hair loss ( not that I have that much to lose at this point) I start on this Friday and we'll see where it goes...by going the route I have chosen to go my odds are good that I'll get to hang around for a while. I'm embarrassed / a little angry at myself that I let these tumors get so large and out of hand seeking a softer more gentle way than Bloodroot paste or Mohs which would have knocked them all out or at least not allowed them to ever get so big and damaging as they became...I look at the before pictures and just what in the world was I thinking...because they grow slow I just kept accepting that they were getting a "little bigger" and in denial of the fact that they had become HUGE and dangerous even deadly...I represent that 1/10th of 1% where the basal cell tumor metastasizes all the way to the partoid gland all the doctors of the team were surprised.

I know I promised pictures but after looking at these the other day with the doctor in front of two new nurses new to the case and seeing the shock on their faces I thin describing them is enough to "get the picture" that these were terribly nasty.

After the forehead wound no longer needs a bandaid I'll post some after pics...The ear and right forehead look really good...the shoulder scar is darn nasty looking so maybe not on that one...

Fingers crossed that this Libtayo works and doesn't mess with me too much on the side effects... It looks like it is really good news for people with squamous AND they think it may work equally well on basal but those test trials for FDA approval are still ongoing..being as I had both and still have some small basals this might get me clean for a while whoopee!

Well my last post was on July 9th and sadly the Libtayo didn't work out so well....

Dang! I'm a mess

In the link below are 3 pictures The first was taken June 9 2019
I took this picture with my wife not knowing what I was in store for. You can see if you look close a piece of tape and two little bumps neither bigger than a m&m on my left cheek in front of my ear.
These were residual from the radiation treatment that shrunk a very big tumor down to even smaller than these two bumps..but unfortunately all was not killed and these two rascals decided to give me a run for my money... I notified my radion oncologist who said "let's keep and eye on them...In early july with them starting to take off we biopsied and yes they were "squamous" as previously noted in the post above I was encouraged to try immunotherapy...being as I predisposed to get these lesions I thought it was the best route because it would not only kill this tumor but any other residual stuff within me...Nope so I start the infusions, 1 every 3 weeks , by the 3rd infusion this thing was getting massive but the oncologist encouraged me to "give it time"

Certainly in retrospect and now understanding the poor odds I had of this working I would have opted for having them surgically renoved immediately as soon as I saw them growing...I would have had two tiny little scars om my cheek...

Here's a link to the June, September and October pictures Ghastly how fast it grew....BTW I have come to find out there many sub types of skin cancers and this one seems to be a hybrid Basosquamous...sadly even City of Hope doesn't recognize that there is a BIG difference in how these grow and a regular basal or squamous.. more on this later...
https://photos.app.goo.gl/giWePMv4dQ4gZDbP8

And here is a link to me after my surgery yesterday of which is only the removal going back in for reconstructive surgery next Monday hopefully.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/TWND8EbaNPbmNbvM6

So yeah I'm a mess for now..we'll see how it all goes down...

Currently my left side of my face is "temporarily" Paralyzed ( I HOPE temporarily)

They said they had to go deep and far beyond the actual tumor removing part of of my Parotoid gland and chasing the cancer all the way down to the carotid vein where luckily it had not yet attached...basically cut my ear off and sewed it back san the lower lobe...hoping to use the skin behind it to graft the hole...alas radiation damage to that skin made it unusable....

This is crazy but it is what it is onward and upward...

Well here I am 3 and half months later and things are far from rosey..Hey good news is I thought they had cut off the lobe of my ear but it turns out it was just covered with part of the bandage...whew! That said this is going to only get uglier

Where they did the flap rotation I would call a mini cinnamon roll the Doc said it would flatten out...it didn't and 2 months later they biopsied it and another new bump a few inches down from the roll and they are squamous...

I am VERY frustrated with the way all the medical world deals with skin cancer so matter of factly ...like they really have it figured out using a knife..."THE GOLD STANDARD" Phewy! but I am at their mercy at this juncture...at city of Hope they look at me like I'm nuts when I speak of Zinc Chloride and spout off statistics that are not even close to what Dr.Mohs experienced using chemographic rather than micrographic surgery...Incredible how jaded they are because of the way people have used Bloodroot paste and failed...Dr. Mohs did not just apply the paste he applied it and then 24 hours later excised it...big difference and he knew what he was doing when he made the paste...some of the stuff out there is not necessarily the same..
They point at my failures which is really not because of Bloodroot paste but because I screwed around with so many other hopefully softer more gentle ways than using the paste which always worked but did sometimes come back just as it does with excision...hello? If surgery works so great why am I now having to have more of my neck removed...

So I'm frustrated and scarred and scared as is my poor wife and kids..I really am sad that I am having to put them through this and I have so much I want to live for.... I will try and keep posting here as this evolves and I am asking God, my guardian angels to help me and for those of you that pray to send one up for me to get through this. I'm a mess but my overall health at 66 is way better than I would have anticipated such a shame this skin cancer stuff and the treatments the medical world choose to use to deal with have left me radiated, cut up and not looking half as handsome as I never was ;) I've had a great life and have soo much to live for but so did several of my friends who have had to leave this world for a variety of afflictions and two of them were to skin cancer. If my number is up I don't have much say in the matter other than doing everything I can to stay above ground without being too much of burden to my loved ones as long as I can...sure don't want to put more poo on them than I already have though..

Going to meet with a few surgeons during this next week to decide the next chapter in this tragic comedy.

I wish I had a good answer or recommendation for all of you. Bloodroot paste does work and there is a doctor who is a Chemographic surgeon ...probably the only one on earth right now...His name is Norman Brooks and he uses Zinc Chloride to kick Melanom's butt here's a link to his site and I may very well visit him next week before I let the other characters slice on me..

http://skincancercenter.com/aboutmohssurgery.html

He actually studied under Dr. Mohs...but he must be a quack because he still uses Zinc Chloride...ignorance is bliss

Dr. Brooks studied and trained under the guidance of Dr. Mohs himself. As a board certified ACMS graduate, Dr. Brooks gained an uncommon level of exposure, including everything from challenging tumor locations to rare tumor pathology and complex wound healing. You can rest assured that Dr. Brooks has the training and experience to achieve the best outcome from your skin cancer treatment.

I had the two new bumps om neck removed 10 days ago ...they were each smaller than a single peanut but to ensure he got it all in one shot he went big and took out about a 3/4" round chunk @ 3/8" deep... To close these he sliced from my ear lobe down to my collar bone and the brought the two sides together. Free neck lift!

Now it's sit and wait and see if more pop up...and then...who knows

I'll post as the saga continues...on a interesting side note I have come across a guy who was on his death bed with cancer and used a dog / cat parasite killer...3 years later cancer is gone...this has gone kind of viral...especially in Korea...many other terminal cancer victims having great results...but not everybody...medical community is scratching their heads... I'll start a new thread I'll be dog gone dog parasite drug is killing cancer in humans! Arfit arf arf arf! :)

Hi FRomance Well lets see it's been 14 months and I'm still kickin. So it turns out when the doctor removed those last 2 lesion he took quite a bit more real estate than I realized or mentioned above. There is one bump that has not gone away and was a little painful..but not growing...so at 1 year I decided to go have it biopsied...it came back clean...woo hoo! Just scar tissue... So I have been going in for CAT scans and MRI's every 6 months or so kind of monitoring all the areas and No evidence of new cancer so far.. No new big lesions coming up ...several AK's that I just zap with a strong mix of acetic acid and dmso on a regular basis to keep them from evolving...dmso and @ 40% acetic acid. In some cases I just hit it daily or if they are getting bigger I do the soaked pad thing for a week or so covered with tape...seems to get em pretty good. I did have the opportunity to get some froze off one time at City of Hope but most came back and I just handled them with the acetic acid and dmso.. So I have gained back about 70% of the movement in my face I can smile partially...because of the radiation on my cheek / jaw my motion is limited and it appears there is long term damage that I will have to contend with ...they gave me a little tool that helps spread my jaw...supposed to do it every day multiple times but I don't ( bad patient) but I do break it out to use every so often just totry and keep the jaw opening...get some cramps in that area...Pretty gnarly scar on the side of my face...but I'm breathing and able to live a very active productive life...grateful for my blessings and marching forward hoping for the most part I am done with the big tumors...I will never let any get bigger than a pea without taking strong measures quickly be it zinc Chloride or the knife...hopefully this acetic acid / dmso thing will never let another one get growing on me to a point where I have to break out the big guns.

OH forgot to mention...The Fenbendazol Dog Dewormer thing....

The guy who started this thing is named Joe Tippens.. I did do the protocol for several months and I would restart in a heartbeat if I am ever diagnosed with any internal cancer..He has a blog and a Facebook group MYCANCERSTORYROCKS https://www.mycancerstory.rocks/single-post/2016/08/22/Shake-up-your-life-how-to-change-your-own-perspective

I also started drinking about 4 to 5 cups of carrot juice every day for about 6 months...I have backed off on both for the short term but I believe both are great alternative protocols to use to help beat cancer. Ann Cameron has written a book on it called Curing Cancer with Carrots she also has a facebook group..

In both Facebook groups there are a lot of people posting who are fighting the big C...all different kinds...many asking how to go about it, some posting that they have succeeded NED ( NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE) and of course the sad postings where a friend or relative is posting about their loved one that tried the protocol but didn't make it...I particularly enjoy the ones where their doctors are baffled because they have never seen a remissions like these people are having...Both Joe Tippens and Ann Cameron were given the "get your affairs in order" death sentence...both are alive n kickin today using their protocols... Think positive, understand that medical doctors mean well but have a narrow road they legally must walk and most importantly be your own advocate...don't just accept every thing traditional doctors say as the gospel truth because just like the rest of us...they just don't know what they don't know. As brother Bonder always says...Be well! and I say Let God light your way!

Just a little update....

I had a radiation ulcer on my forehead from where they zapped a very big BCC 18 months after radiation and still not healing...it was @ 2" in diameter circular...messy always having to keep it bandaged.. The folks at City of hope tried several ointments, debrading , silcone tape all to no avail...My radiation oncologist kind of left me hanging with well sometimes they just don't heal...Did some research on radiation ulcers and learned that Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy can sometimes help them to heal...Called the local hospital and made an appointment..The Doctor was fairly certain HBOT could help me and Medicare and my supplemental covered the treatment..soooo I was precribe 40 hours of HBOT 20 days...2 hours at a time. Pretty easy gotta strip down and wear a cotton gown and then just lay in the chamber and watch movies or TV for 2 hours a day 5 days a week...There are ton of other positive side effects from HBOT from helping with stem cell regeneration to growing new blood vessels in your skin...The wound definitely appears to be getting better...I might qualify for another 20 rounds to ensure I am done with getting this dang thing to a place where I don't have to bandage it and have it oozing on me...I'll update as I progress.

Happy you've found the treatment for that bcc. That treatment is a god's gift, first time I heard of it and it seems great to have.

Wow time flies...So a year later I'm still having to bandage but it is not nearly as bad as it was... I absolutely could go back and get some more but I'll ride this out for a few more months...it really does seem to be slooooowly better..dang problem is the skin starts growing and even the best of the best bandages meant to not pull the new skin off do...and then it's going through the healing process all over again...almost there and whoops the bandage tears some more off... Oh well kids I'm alive and living a really decent life and LOVING being a Grandpa...All the best to all of you fighting the skin cancer fight....DO YOUR OWN DUR DILLIGENCE and BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE....ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS!
