In an effort to combat spammers, Topicalinfo is now using an "email authentication" feature. In the past any person wishing to register just did so, which was great for privacy and convenience. We did implement a Captcha program to weed out spambots and that worked rather well until now.

Now it appears that there are either more sophisticated computerized spammers or keyboard farms in the far reaches of the world with people physically registering on obscure sites such as this.

We will see how email authentication works. It would be nice to get back to an wide open forum. Hopefully it is not too much of a burden for new users while I investigate some other options.

Unfortunately it is just layer of protection necessary in todays autobot world. Appreciate the effort to reduce the spammers...definitely seen an increase over the last several months.

Thanks,

Tom
