hello

My aunt has squamous cell carcinoma on her cheek, was grafted a few months ago but the graft fell off because they say she was supposed to undergo chemotherapy soon after the surgery which was not done. Now she has a very big hole on her cheek of which you can even see all her teeth and tounge on the left side of her face. she is in so much pain and am looking for natural remedies to heal the wound and stop an further damage to her face before she undergoes another surgery. she cannot eat anything solid hence she is starting to grow weak. please help.

Hello Molly,

It sounds like your aunt, in addition to what she's already gone through, may also have an infection in her cheek, with inflammation causing more pain.

Active Manuka Honey is known for it's antibacterial properties, when taken internally and also when used directly on a wound. As the inflammation subsides, the pain will also. The Active honey is said to help with healing, and help regenerate new skin cells to reduce scarring.

She might need to lie down to keep the honey (or any ointment) from sliding off, and the great thing about using the honey is that it's not toxic if it gets in your mouth. She may also need to put a poultice both on the inside and outside of her cheek to adequately cover the wound edges with the honey. Taking it internally while treating the wound will help not only with fighting bacteria, but will also provide some nutrition for her.

There is information about it at both of these websites.

I have ordered from both places and had no problems getting questions answered, or getting my order. I ordered first from Manuka Honey in the UK (first link) and was very pleased with the product. Taking it internally has completely cleared up a digestive problem I've had for years, and taking a spoonful of honey 3 X a day is much better than taking a handful of herbal capsules 3 x a day, and with better results.

I've been using their Meloderm on my facial basal cell to help with pain, and it's thick enough that a light film will stay put w/o a bandage during the day. One application can last all day if there's no seeping, but when it seeps it needs to be reapplied. At night I apply a heavier layer and bandage it, then sleep on the opposite side of my face.

I've tried various pain relief ointments, etc. to manage the sometimes severe pain, burning, and itching of my bcc and the active honey has worked the best. The wound is also easier to clean, since it melts off when applying a gauze pad soaked with warm water, or if she drinks green tea (also a cancer fighter) holding the warm tea bag or tea leaves in a napkin against the wound will melt off the honey. The warm green tea leaves also help soothe the wound, or it does for me.

The redness, swelling, and overall angry look of the bcc and surrounding area has improved enough for people to notice when they see me. I'm just happy to find a natural remedy that makes it feel better, and will nourish the skin at the same time. I have a shelf full of products I've bought and tried for pain relief, but none have worked like the Active Manuka Honey.

When I ran out of the Active Manuka Honey to take internally I reordered from the second link, after comparing costs with shipping. Since I live in the U.S. the shipping was very high from the first link, but the honey from the second link (HoneyMark products) is working just as well and tastes the same. They do not have Meloderm though, but the Active Manuka Honey can be put directly on a wound, according to their website.

Keep us updated on your aunts progress.
