On Jan 20th I had a spot removed that I had for around 3 weeks. First I thought it was a pimple, but it wouldn't go away. The biopsy came back SCC and the margins weren't clean in the bottom of the biopsy. So they sent me to a dermatologist. Because it is lateral to my eye by my temple and because I am having some nerve pain this doctor recommended I see a specialist to have it removed. I can't go to the first one he recommended because it is out of my network and would cost too much out of pocket, so I am going to a plastic surgeon in town.

I am 54. So anyway. Yesterday I get the call they can do my surgery on the 5th. Now everyone has told me because of where it is at and how fast it grew that I should get it out as soon as possible and it is possible it might have spread to my facial nerves. But it has been almost a month since they took the first biopsy and I still have 15 days to go before anyone will remove it. And living in this small town don't have many options for seeing anyone else.

I try not to think about it and try not to get worried but until it is out and I am free of it I will. I have been reading all the posts and since it sounds like it will be something I will have to think of the rest of my life learning how to prevent more coming.

Hi Julia,

My father had a very similar case. You can read about it in the post "SCC Individual Treatment Protocol". After removing it, even if no metastasis has been found, you should start some prevention protocol. My father didn't do it, and it was our mistake that resulted in a metastasised stage IV SCC, which you can read about in greater detail in the protocol doc.

Thank you,
Nekto

Hi Julia
saw your post and wanted to reply and let you know you are in my prayers. If you had your surgery on the 5th i hope it went well. Did you have Mohs surgery?

There is a lot of info on this web site and the search function (top right on page) works very well.
Good luck Julia and let us know how you are doing!
