Posted - 11/14/2008 : 21:49:25 I have ditched the make-up and the sunscreen because I used sunscreen and I also am not one to just sit in the sun. Will check out two of the sites Dan recommended (Thanks Dan :>)) ewg (environmental working group) is so frustrating - they give bad scores to one company for an ingredient in a product and ignore this same ingredient in another product and give it a good score! it's nonsensical soooo for me i don't have much trust in their information. Also some of these so-called "natural" or "organic" or 70% "organic" products are a disappointment when I discover they contain sunscreens and parabens, or else a ton of essential oils to try to perfume over the oils in them that are rancid. I wish someone would just make something in a moisturizer that is basic w/something to keep the oils from spoiling (i read jojoba oil will do this) and a few herbals not a long list of them so that if I react I wonder which ingredient I was allergic to!? Anyone have any suggestions on moisturizers out there? |

Posted - 11/02/2008 : 13:35:06 I think the best approach with cosmetics is to minimize their use if you would consider them not safe enough to eat because, like you said, the ingredients can be absorbed. There are many different ingredients added to skin products that may be harmful over the long term including the Green Guide's dirty dozen: antibacterials, coal-tar dyes, 1,4-dioxane (a contaminant of "PEG," sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate and other -eth ingredients), formaldehyde, fragrance, mercury, nanoparticles, parabens and petroleum distillates. You can look up the safety considerations of any cosmetics you use at http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ See also http://www.thegreenguide.com/products/Cosmetics and http://www.ewg.org/featured/214 |
