Hello,
Dan recommends;
Leave one long span of at least twelve hours and preferably longer without protein intake each day.

Does that include ALL proteins such as nut butters, sprouted whole grain bread, etc? I have no problem eliminating meat, eggs & dairy from my diet by 5pm, (i get up around 5am & usually eat immediately and have a protein shake around 6am) and the 12 hr gap makes a lot of sense...so i am willing to commit to whatever it takes, but was wondering if anyone knew if the type of protein makes a difference?

Excellent Dan, I have been successful not eating after 5pm and then having breakfast around 6am about 5 - 6 days a week...I appreciate your insight. After making a formula w/ most of the ingredients mentioned in your site my skin has healed miraculously, almost impossible to believe when i look at how much healthier my skin looks, and also how good i feel...Thank you!

Hi HRM, sorry I have been away for a while, I hope you are well. To be clear, I do not really try to avoid protein anymore but am mindful of avoiding excessive amounts as well as trying to keep a 12 hour daily protein gap. The gap is ideally a gap without food. So if I normally eat breakfast at 7AM, I try not to eat anything after 7PM. If I can't make it for whatever reason, at least try for a snack with minimal protein, not something like eggs or meat. We have become so fat conscious that a protein snack in the gap may seem like the healthy option, but it is not.

Dan,
Would u detail what you eat when avoiding protein? I checked & even broccoli, bread and lettuce have some protein...so what do you eat in the evenings for supper?

Thanks Dan. It's good to hear it has been easy to stick with...i will do the same. Around 6am I have my Flax Seed shake, which obviously has protein, so i will shoot to stop eating protein around 2pm the day before so I have more than just 12 hrs free of protein. Thx again for the great site!

Hi HRM, I'm glad to hear from you. The idea behind the daily protein fast is to allow the protein digesting enzymes produced by the pancreas time to be absorbed systemically rather than be devoted full time to digestion. These same enzymes are a first defense against cancer. I don't think the type of protein matters as much as quantity and timing. Too little protein is also going to cause trouble, so the RDA of 40 to 60 grams a day depending on weight is a good target.

This was a strategy of which I was oblivious before I got my first skin cancers. I would often have a chunk of meat as a snack just before bedtime. The protein fast is, in my opinion, a major health improvement step and has been really easy to stick with over the years.
