Posted - 06/05/2008 : 13:26:40 I just found this site today and found it very helpful. Just wanted to let you know, that my husband's doctor switched his prescription for the Efudex CREAM to a less expensive OINTMENT. The ointment works the same way, however, there was a SIGNIFICANT INCREASE OF SIDE EFFECTS. Nausea, vomiting, skin rash (on non-affected/non-treated areas)and significant eye irritation.
I found a legal web-site from Canada that brought our cost down for the CREAM from almost $200 per tube to $59 per tube (plus $12 s/h).
I thought this may be helpful for those of you experiencing a similar situation.
My husband was going to go ahead and "bite the bullet" with the cheaper ointment and I put my foot down and found a much better alternative. It is legal to purchase (3) tubes of Efudex CREAM from this Canadian pharmacy per year and they keep the script on file. The link is: www.77canadapharmacy.com/buy/efudex.php
You may also chat live with a customer service person who speaks to the actual pharmacist in real time that I found very helpful.
Canada has not approved the ointment and now we definitely know why. |
