This study has been reported in Australia. It's the result of research using the herpes virus to kill skin cancers. The claim is that 10% of melanoma cancers were destroyed by the treatment and that a large replica study is starting. In the larger study all the participants taking part will be given the treatment.

Thanks for the post Alma! It sounded not so great at first take because the headline gave the impression one would trade getting herpes for skin cancer. But after looking it over, it sounds a lot better! The drug, called T-VEC, has already been sent to the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medical Agency for approval. Researchers hope it will be available for consumers as early as next year. "T-VEC works by multiplying inside cancer cells and bursting them from within. It can’t be replicated in healthy cells and is designed to produce a molecule which stimulates the immune system to attack and destroy the tumour."
