As a new member and after reading about topical applications for skin cancer I decided to try it on my nose. It was biopsied almost a year ago and BCC confirmed. I have been waiting for surgery with a skin graft but after finding this forum decided not to wait any longer.
Two days ago I mixed 1 capsule of Artemisinin with Emu Oil and applied it to the area that was biopsied. It did not react negatively, there was no irritation, and this morning I noticed there is a slight 'dip' in the biopsied area that wasn't there before. Previously it was shiny where they took a slice to biopsy.
That encouraged me to continue and I have now repeated the application over the entire nose.
The reason I chose to use emu oil is because I have read previously that emu oil and organic coconut oil are the best 'transporters' to take another treatment through the skin.
If the skin cancer on my nose improves or dies using this topical treatment I will also apply it to my foot that has been treated with 'PV-10 Rose Bengal' injections for melanoma. |

I took this close up of my nose 5 weeks after the surgery and skin graft. The graft site has healed without a scar so nothing to photograph to show you. As you see the cancer had affected the entire front part of my nose and was very deep so the graft needed to be substantial. It doesn't hurt and within 2-3 weeks there will be little or nothing to see.
Right now I look like this

Thank you for the good wishes Dan. I still have another hurdle to leap - next month it will be one year since a melanoma tumour on my foot was treated with 'PV-10 Rose Bengal' injections.
The tumour died and broke off but I am still an outpatient in the melanoma clinic. I am due to have a PET or CT scan (can't remember which it is but it includes the brain) just before what I hope will be my final appointment next month. Hopefully no further melanoma tumours will be found and I will be discharged. No new tumours have grown on the skin so I take that as a good sign. The body scan will show if there's anything growing under the skin.
I have ordered more Artemisinin and plan to take it orally in case there are melanoma cells in my foot. I have been mixing the contents of 3 Artemisinin capsules with emu oil and applying it to my foot to be absorbed through the skin. The skin is actually looking better, more healed, although that doesn't really tell me anything.

At my first post op check today - 4 days after the surgery - the graft appears to have taken and the nose is apparently healing correctly, according to the plastic surgeon.
Best of all, the lab report shows that the cancer was excised successfully.
The 'donar' graft site is hurting quite a bit but the stitches will be out in a week so that's not too much to cope with. Panadol is dealing OK with the pain.
Just glad its over and the cancer is now gone.

I tried the Artemisinin first and then also tried Tea Tree oil, using emu oil as a transporter for both. After a couple of weeks of applications I could see no changes in the BC on my nose but would have persevered with the Tea Tree Oil because it has reportedly helped others.
However, 2 days ago I received a call from the public hospital to say a plastic surgeon was available for today if I wanted the appointment. So I have just had surgical removal of the affected area with a skin graft from my shoulder.
I did pretty much inset on a general anaesthetic because I am a coward when it comes to pain and couldn't tolerate even the idea of having having more needles suck in my nose. The hospital staff were kind and understanding of my needle phobia so I woke up in recovery with the procedure over!
Because I am in Australia the treatment is free. I know cost is a big factor for people in many other countries when making treatment decisions so I count my blessings on receiving free health care from very competent people. I know we are lucky because we have choices even if the wait lists can be longer than we would like.
It's good to know that topical treatments can kill some cancers and that many people do have success with them.
