 Photolyase enzymes? Anyone know much?

I hear there are things called photolyase enzymes (Google it!) which are no longer active in humans and this is one reason we're so prone to skin cancer. These enzymes can be topically applied in creams etc, and are said to use a certain mechanism to repair the damaged DNA. I don't know whether they can actually cure an established skin tumor, or sink deep enough to if they can, but I wonder if it would help repair any further damage beforte more tumors appear that are not connected to the initial ones?

Perhaps it's worth more investigation?
